4th of July 2010 in Philadelphia with The Roots

Home to symbols of the founding of the nation, Philadelphia is a financially broke city with an old history, hot summers, lots of parks, plenty of available drugs and delicious, hearty food. It’s very laid back, too, and full of artists. I was there last summer, actually, and had a great time.

The Roots are from Philadelphia, and are not only an amazing hip hop band, they’re also a very political band. The concert will be outdoors at the Ben Franklin Parkway, free of charge.  Should be particularly cool to experience their live performance on a 4th of July in their hometown.

The Brooklyn Vegan blog hearts it (and we stole all the photos from them, too).

If you’re touristing in New York City for the holiday and love The Roots, pourquoi pas? You can also check out the crack scene.

To get to Philadelphia from New York by bus, take the BoltBus. Piece of cake, takes about 2 hours.
